Wet-look hair has been a reoccurring trend on international catwalks for quite a few years now; not only is it a current trend for this Autumn/Winter, it will also be on trend for our upcoming Spring/Summer and our 2016 Autumn/Winter.

The inspiration behind this trend has covered everything from embracing post ‘gym’ hair to looking like you’ve just stepped out of the ocean.  Of course not every wet haired look that’s graced the catwalk can be worn easily or practically, but some certainly have their merits.

Our gallery showcases a small range of past, present and future catwalk ‘wet-look dos’ that we think are the most wearable – whether for work, a night out or weekends.  We’ve also included our product picks for achieving these styles.   Keep on reading if you would like to give any of these hairstyles a go!

Look1: Roberto Cavalli’s undone wet look bun – A/W 14-15
Straighten hair, then apply a liberal amount of  L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Fix Max through hair – roots to tips.  Smooth hair back with fingers, for that ‘undone’ look, gather into a ponytail, twist then coil into a bun and pin.

Look 2:  Céline twisted ponytail – A/W 14-15
Apply a volume spray through the roots and blow-dry back off the face with a natural bristle brush.  Next smooth Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+Gelastic through hair.  Pull hair back into a low ponytail then twist ponytail up until it coils in on itself and secure with elastic leaving the ends of the ponytail free. Finish with strong hold hairspray and shine mist (optional).

Look 3:  Alexander Wang wet to dry ponytail – S/S 15
Straighten hair then split horizontally into three sections – nape to forehead. Starting with the base section, apply a two dollar (NZ) sized amount of KMS Hair Stay Styling Gel to the roots/scalp, then comb (fine-tooth best) gel through section, stopping at the nape.  Keep it super sleek with no stray hairs. Repeat the process to remaining two sections.  Gather hair into a low ponytail and re-comb, pulling hair taut.  Tie at the nape with two black hair elastics. Finish the look with a shine spray.

Look 4:  Calvin Klein Japanese inspired chignon – S/S 15
Straighten hair then apply hairspray and Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist throughout to create a texturised, wet look.  Pull hair back into a tight, high ponytail, then twist into a chignon and pin, leaving a few loose ends free.

Look 5:  Carolina Herrera sleek ponytail – A/W 15-16
Apply a blow dry balm to hair and blow dry straight back with no part using a soft bristle brush.  Layer in Joico Joigel Medium Styling Gel from the roots to mid lengths.  Comb the hair back into a low pony at the nape and secure with a thin elastic. Starting from about two inches away from the elastic tightly weave ribbon, or thin strip of leather, around the pony, securing with a small knot behind the elastic.  Finish with hairspray and a gloss serum, for extra shine, through the ponytail.

Look 6:  Cushnie Et Ochs – A/W 15-16
To get this look prep entire hair with a texture spray and blow dry. Then apply a liberal amount of Moroccanoil Styling Gel through hair from forehead to back of ears.  Next comb in a deep side part and smooth gelled hair back flat, behind the ears.  Secure and decorate with 7 evenly spaced bobby pins (or choose your own clip detailing) on each side of the head.  Create additional volume and texture through the mid lengths of the ‘dry’ hair using a 2” barrel tong. Set with a firm-hold hairspray.
